Update on Ike

For those of you who have been wondering, yes Ike is supposed to clip the DFW (Dallas/Fort Worth) area. We've been told to expect 30-40 mph sustained winds with gusts up to 50mph and to be on the watch because it could change its course at any time. Right now the center of the storm should stay East of the Dallas area, but it's already moved 60 miles west of where it was early this morning. Lucky for us Jared will be gone all day so I should spend most of the day worried about him and the chance that something may fly through our window! We got a letter from the management company reminding us to make sure our renters insurance was current because they wouldn't be responsible for any damages, which is expected. I was just concerned that they felt the need to send that out. It looks like everyone is expecting tomorrow to be bad! I'll update you again tomorrow night on what's going on and if we've had any damage to our area. Love you all!

And here we see the side affects of the former post...

It doesn't look as bad on camera, but it sure looks awful in person. I felt so bad for her, her whole right eye is all swollen. Melody kept trying to hug her and kiss it better, which in turn made Katie even madder! If Melody is any indicator of what's to come this is just the first of many!

She Climbs! dun-dun-dun...

Katie has mastered the one handed scoot, the two handed scoot and now... she can climb. That's right I said climb, at 8 months old she's like a regular Spider Man! I left the kids in the living room the other day and suddenly I hear Mellie yelling 'No Katie, don't touch it!' So obviously I go check and I find Katie has climbed up the front of our new entertainment center (which will soon have doors) and is now banging on Jared's very overpriced TV- with both hands! I IM Jared and tell him what she has figured out how to do and he promptly suggests another trip to Ikea to get the doors that can be added. Right after I removed her from in front of the TV she starts attacking the movies. She managed to clean out the whole shelf in less than a minute, much to Mellie's dismay. She was trying to put them back in as fast as Katie was taking them out. Today she scooted over to the wall and figured out how to climb up to a standing postion and then looks around very proud of herself. Very quickly she realized that not only could she not reach the toys she also couldn't get herself down. I had been watching her and she looked at me with this pathetic 'save me' face and all I could do was laugh. Finally I got it under control and helped her back down to the floor and she promptly climbed right back up the wall! I was afraid for her to crawl because she would be moving so much faster, now I'm afraid she's going to skip crawling and go straight to walking!

I don't like...

That is what I have heard ALL DAY today! When we were getting breakfast, I don't like that cereal mom. Then taking a bath, I don't like those toys. Then getting dressed, I don't like that shirt. It took us almost 20 minutes to get dressed and I had to threaten that we wouldn't go to the park before she would put on anything. Then at the park, I don't like swings. Then at lunch, I don't like peppers, I don't like grapes. Then choosing books for nap time, I don't like those books. AAAUGH! Since when are two-year-olds allowed to not like ANYTHING! I want to know where in the hand book of parenting it covers pleasing your picky two-year-old because I think I missed that chapter!

Katie's 'scrunchie' face

Katie recently started making the funniest face! I call it her scrunchy face, or her extreme emotion face. When ever she gets mad or frustrated, or when she's happy or excited she wrinkles up her nose and scrunches her eyes and starts breathing really fast through her nose. The nose breathing, however, has been unfortunate for us this last week because she has been so congested. Whenever she does this she blows boogers all over the person unlucky enough to be holding her! This picture she was laughing at dad right after she woke up, thus the antenna like pigtails! She's definitely a morning person. It's so funny watching her lately because her personality has just exploded! Suddenly she has opinions and obvious emotions. She'll drag herself along behind you and cry at you until you help her stand up. She doesn't necessarily want to be held, she just wants to stand up and hasn't been able to do it on her own. Today she scooted over to the gate we have between the kitchen and the living room and was crying at us while we made lunch. After a minute the crying stopped so I looked over to make sure she was still alive and she had managed to climb her way up the gate so she was standing! Granted she was almost doing the splits, but she was still standing! She's such a happy little baby. She'll sit and talk her baby babble to Melody and laugh at everything she does. Unfortunately Melody likes to rough house, and to her credit she really does try to be soft, but whenever she tries to play with Katie it gets ugly. Katelynn has no patience for rough housing, or being squished, or hugged tightly, or being jumped on! Go figure! Melody has a hard time understanding that Katie doesn't like it because she enjoys it so why wouldn't Katie? Needless to say they are both their very own person. They both have very vibrant and yet very different personalities. It's so much fun having two babies!
